Re: pronunciation
Try babynamer.com. You type in a name, and then click on pronounciation. Are there any special names you have in mind?

thank youThank you very much, though I did not see any pronunciation sound file or phoenetic spelling available for the name that I want. I want to be able to say my friend Stefan's name (seems simple enough, right?) correctly--he says that none of his friends say it right. He is Swedish, so I am assuming that there is a particular Swedish pronunciation of the name.

StefanStefan is also used in Germany but it is not pronounced the same way. It is a form of Stephen . It is hard to describe the pronounciation. The "e" in Stefan is long but not pronounced like "ee". It is like "stay" without the last sound. And "fan" is pronounced like "fun". But why not simply ask Stefan how he pronounces his name and then repeat it some times?

Thanks for the help. That's a good question--actually, I haven't and won't see him in person for a while (or talk to him on the phone), so I thought I'd try to find out how to say his name and surprise him the next time I saw him. I guess that's just taking the hard way. But, again thank you very, very much for your help.
