I've noticed my writing tends to be a bit, well, sweeping anyway, but it's true it's a flashback. However, I don't think she'd truly have scandalized feelings, once she's aware she won't be harmed, it's more that she thinks that's what expected in this situation. But she's too, well, detached to be really much shocked.
I loved the reference to the fogs of another era.
