For the "people treated her like she didn't know any better," it goes like this: Amy is a free-spirited child who seeks adventure, but the nuns who run the orphanage she lives at think she is easily distracted and have already jumped to the conclusion that she needs help.
The pixie/fairy (or faxie, as I call her) is about the size of a four-year-old child, but she is actually in her late teens. And yes, she has magical powers.
