This came out better than I thought!
“Can they fix Alexander?” Michael asks as we leave Alexander at his therapy.
“What do you mean?” I ask.
“Make him normal.”
“They don’t need to,” I try to think of what to say, “Alexander is perfect how he is; just like you.” Yes, I decide, that works.
“I wish he wasn’t stupid.”
“He’s not stupid,” I say firmly, “he has autism.”
“Well, then I wish he didn’t have it.”
