...his eyes--more gray than usual in the light of the chandeliers on the high ceiling--darting over the crowd, taking in the faces and clothes of the other guests. They generally seemed to be as confused about this party as he was, and as for their clothes... Well, he was glad that his simple suit and black tie were relatively timeless and unobtrusive.
He realized that he had been standing in this one place for several minutes and started walking slowly toward the bar, eager for either a conversation or a drink...
