As ever, Fox was quick to jump in with an enthusiastic response. "I'm learning about Ancient Egypt," she explained proudly, "I know about tombs and curses and amulets and everything. Did you know that there was this man called Mr Carter that went in a tomb and got cursed?"
"Everyone knows that," Ira pointed out, not unkindly, trying to decide between cherry pie and blackberry pie. "I just started high school* this year and it's really hard. There's loads of homework. I only like art and geography, really."
Auden cut a sizeable piece of apple pie for Fox and then served herself a helping of some sort of strawberry lattice pie. "Everyone assumes that because I read a lot, I must be one of those kids who loves school," she informed Aurelia irritably, "But I hate it, actually. It's nothing but adults telling you things you either already know or don't care about."
