I know it's only a kid's book, but maybe Lyra Belacqua from Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" books. She's brave and interesting and really not perfect. She makes loads of mistakes, but she's strong. And she's such a storyteller... well, liar, really, but for some reason that kind of makes me like her more. If I have to pick someone from a 'serious' book, then maybe Estella from 'Great Expectations'. I know she's kind of mean, but she's so interesting. And she gets to live in that huge house with Miss Havisham. That would be kind of cool, even though Miss Havisham's a bit, well, scary.
