His first reaction is probably "Oh, Lord, no, please! Please" of a particularly fatalist, desperate sort. Then, he'd sadly resign himself to the fact that he'll be unable to race for a while, recuperating at home with his wife. Once in a while people will inevitably drop by to say hello (probably our two heroes, or at the very least Art, will visit once or twice). It'll probably ruin his chances for winning the world championship, if he was previously a serious contender, unless he is a particularly productive sort of rider (he might be, just not very soon). If he wasn't a serious contender for the title anyway, he'll just be grieved with this recent development. As soon as he can get back on the bike, he'll spring onto it, probably a bit wary, but nonetheless restless.
Also, this game has made me realise how I often refer to Art and Vincente as a single unit, "them", "our two heroes", "the dynamic duo", &c.
