It was 10 at night and Joe should have been in bed right now, getting ready for another school day, but he wasn't. He was wandering the streets of his neighbourhood, kicking at the smallest gravel pieces and looking glum. He had had an argument with his mother. It was fair to say that Joe felt guilty, and that was the real reason he was out here worrying her even more, whilst trying to ignore the hot knot in his stomach, but of course he had stormed out and insisted that it was she who was being unreasonable.

Janette Ward hadn't known that Joe was skipping school, so the letter informing her was received badly. Joe had naively thought that the threats teachers made when he did turn up to school about his parents getting in trouble were empty ones. But now he knew better, and mulled the events of the last half year over in his mind as he tramped the cold streets, his bare hands dug deep into his jacket pockets.

He just didn't fit in; and that's one of the hardest things for a kid to deal with. ofcourse, the reason he didn't fit in was NOT his fault, but the others were all to busy feeling smart over it that they didn't think about that, instead they devoted their time to making him feel the deepest, darkest shade of blue. Inky and tinged with frost, like the sky.

(My first attempt at writing in a long while!)
