I'm a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to details. How exactly to berries grow when there is no true day or night? Plants need light for photosynthesis and I just don't fathom any way deciduous trees or tropical and non-tropical non-nocturnal plants can grow in that environment. I suppose coniferous might be able to since they do exist in cold places. Any caveat would be magic and then we get into an area of writing that I just don't care for.
Also I find it highly dubious that the original settlers are from England and no descendants have red hair or carry the gene. This is exactly the kind of closed genetic environment were recessive genes and cause all sorts of havoc.
And for what it's worth, I'm not too fond of characters with name alliteration (or semi-alliteration) for non-juvenile fiction. It comes across very superhero-esque like Peter Parker and Clark Kent. I tend to not take a character seriously if there is an alliteration.
