The characters in my current
YA fantasy WIP all have vaguely Italian or Anglicised-Italian names (kind of Shakespeare Italian, I guess). When browsing for names for a main-cast character I found
Maddalena, and felt that Maddalen would suit her perfectly.
However, I'm afraid that if ever this book were to be published then discerning, YA-reading name nerds will roll their eyes and diss me for choosing something so similar to the ubiquitously popular
Madeline /
Madelyn.
What do you think? Am I being silly, or would Maddalen in a fantasy-Italianate novel irritate you?
