How about a fanfic-within-a-fanfic? Ellie and Thea are writing a fanfic about their favorite show together. The problem is, they can't really get started because they're having trouble agreeing on a story for it. So, your story should focus on them trying to agree on what to write about (whether they actually do agree in the end or not is up to you).
