I only ever knew one Iris, and she made such an impression on me that I can't separate her image from the name. Iris was a girl in a class I took in medical transcription maybe ten years ago. She actually went by the name Annie, but Iris was her real name.

She had red hair that might have been dyed, it was a bit too close to maroon to be natural. She was very tall and skinny, with a terrible overbite. She always dressed very nicely.

The one thing that stands out about her was that she scratched herself constantly. I don't know if she actually itched or if it was just a habit she'd gotten into, but she scratched. Obviously and indescreetly, including her private areas. The woman sitting next to her once got into a silent laughing fit at seeing Iris picking her nose with one hand and scratching her crotch with the other hand. She (I think her name was Jamie but I might not be right) just sat there, silently shaking with her head bent down over her papers, trying so hard to stop but unable to. I had the worst trouble not joining in because Jamie looked so funny. It could probably have degenerated into a domino laughing fit.
I felt sorry for Iris, who was oblivious to it all, but at the same time I wondered how she got to be the age of maybe 20 or 22 and still didn't know not to scratch or pick her nose in public.
