I prefer to write in first person because I feel as though I can put across more emotion that way, sometimes though I defer to third person if I'm switching from a main to minor character. I also prefer to read in first person for similar reasons - I feel more in touch with the character and I can relate to them better, thus can enjoy the story more. First is definitely easier, though it depends what mood I'm in.
