Well, it's hard to judge without knowing anything about what comes next and the context of the story, but like this it's not effective for me. The narrator sounds obnoxious and arrogant, my reaction is to say "why should I believe this is true just because someone is saying it's so?" and it's not telling me anything about the story itself.
