HelpBTN's Top Names (based on Monthly Top 10s)
So I counted up all the data from all of the Monthly Top 10s that we've been doing to find the Top Names of the year.
Different spellings were not combined
Double names were left alone (for the most part-- a few may have been broken up accidentally)
When combos were posted, only the first names counted
If two similar names were posted with a slash or similar (like you posted Louise / Louisa), only the first name was counted.
Only 10 max names were counted per gender per person per month-- so if you posted a top 12 some month, the last two names weren't counted.
Here is the top 25 for each gender. I have more (I have all the data), but the lists start getting a lot longer at each rank after this (especially with girls).

I'm not that surprised. The board in general has pretty well-defined taste that is easy to spot.
I didn't know you did this with the lists! That must be a lot of work!

There are some I quite like here... some that are ok, but not exciting... some that are boring, but not bad... and some that would go on my ugly list.
It definitely would be quite different than some of our general society's trends though.

All those names, and one sees how a certain other name site got Liliana into the mid-70s overall. Being 26th in Top 10 appearances and tied for 63rd overall in the BtN top Names on Top 10s.

I think it would be interesting to do a "weighted" end-of-the year list (top 20s?), in which the rank the user assigns to a name influences the number of "points" that name receives. It would have to be done through a separate thread, however -- I know not everybody ranks their monthly tens in order of preference.

Oh the girls
I was surprised to see August so close to the top, considering I don't feel like I've heard it talked about.
I was surprised to see Ronan was so well-liked. That's one I've fallen in love with in the last 2 weeks and I had no idea others really liked it as well.
I feel like Silas always gets negative responses ("that guy from the DaVinci Code"), and yet it made the top 25?
I also wouldn't have guessed that Cormac, Declan, or Kieran would've made it. Kieran seems especially trendy to me for some reason.
The girls list confirms my suspicions that either I don't like girl's names, or a sure as heck don't like the girl's names that BtNers like! Alice, really? Come on. Iris, Matilda, Margaret, Genevieve, Astrid??.... Ugh. I could go on! Unless I missed it, I was surprised the cursed Gwendolyn and variants didn't make it on. It looks like my taste in girl names is very much in line with the rest of the board. Seven of my latest monthly Top 10 names made it to the board's Top 25: Rose, Catherine, Iris, Lucy, Bonnie, Anne, and Genevieve. In contrast, only one of my top boy names, Malcolm, makes the cut, and I guess that's why the boy list feels like more of a surprise. I used to love Alice but it really bores me at the moment. I guess now I know why :P I never really got the appeal of Iris. Sounds icy and dull to me. I never liked Rose much either.
I love Charlie but Charlotte does nothing for me. Penny is cute and I hope Penelope will grow on me but so far I just think it's ok. I like the meaning and sound of Margaret but there's still a negative personal association I need to get out of my head before I could ever really love it. I need to meet and amazing Margaret.
Matilda is sweet but I actually thought not many people liked it. Guess I was wrong. Helena is so trendy here (I mean where I live, not on this board) that it annoys me. Cecily is alright, it used to be a fave but its meaning bothers me. Ophelia used to be a fave too but nowadays I only think "I feel ya". Catherine and Elizabeth are decent but don't excite me.
Genevieve has grown on me a little but it still sounds too Jennifer to me to be fresh and exciting. Lydia is alright and so is Lucy but they are no favorites. Eve is cute and underused. I always find this really interesting, and I think it was a great idea to count up the monthly top 10s instead of just doing a sudden poll and adding up those names. I don't think there are really any huge surprises, although I'm a bit surprised Alice was top for girls and that Ronan had so many appearances. I'd be curious to see more data if you were to post it.

I don't think there are really any huge surprises, although I'm a bit surprised Alice was top for girls and that Ronan had so many appearances. I'd be curious to see more data if you were to post it.
