Re: How would you spell a name
Dionne has an OHN ending. At least it did in the movie Clueless and she was the only one I ever heard of (oh and Dionne Warwick). I'm probably just explaining it wrong, sorry, but the AHHH in see-AHN sounded different. Sorry, I suck at explaining pronunciations. Cianne is SEE-ann to me.I wish I could think of an example....Argh. I guess I'll probably go with Cyan and pronounce it SIE-an. I like that too :P

hmmthis site says Dionne is pronouced dee-AHN and the AH sounds like it "pot" and "con". The AHH I mean sounds more like the AH in "arm" or the beginning of Ariana (ah-ree-AH-na).

Ok to me those sounds are all identical.okay. so. I read most of this thread out loud because I am procrastinating and to illustrate the complete baffled-ness that goes through my mind during most of these pronunciation discussions.http://soundcloud.com/bringyourownbrahms/sounds/s-1WtDSapparently Cyan is emphasized on the first syllable! oops

tried to explain it above. not sure if that makes it any better ;) but this site says some people pronounce AH and AW the same so maybe that's what you do? because to me the last syllable in Dionne sounds somewhat like -awn (kind of as in Dawn) but it's closer to dee-OHN. Argh sorry hahaha.
