I'm not going to bother trying to list names that "aren't loved" here on these boards. Inevitably there's a name nerd out there that will come to my rescue and say, "Me! I love that name too!" Bless you all.

So I'll confine myself to names that don't go well out in the real world. I listed Elsa in the title because she's my biggest puzzle and poster child. With the popularity of old fashioned names and "-el-" names in general I would have thought that Elsa / Elsie would catch on like a house afire. But no. Could it be that the Borden cow mascot is still reeking havoc even now? Oh, the humanity!

Anyway, when my friend Elizabeth (Liz) became pregnant I suggested Elsa to her. She is part German and the baby's surname is very German. I know Liz' style and it seemed to fit. But she laughed in my face. I was kind of hurt. (By the way, she was considering Eleanor, Leah and Christa (sp?) but ended up naming her dd Julia Frances. Gorgeous.)

Other, seemingly innocuous names that elicit crickets from those I run them past: Valerie, Maura / Maureen, Inez, Sylvie, Patricia, Carlotta, Veronica, Rosa, Lee (m or f), Richard, Shane, Brett, Malcolm, Timothy. Blank. Stares.
