I wouldn't want to be lumped w/ Monroe... I don't know that surnames would be likely to be assumed female. I wouldn't. If I were a guy named Monroe and grew up w/ the nn Monte, as soon as I was old enough to legally change my name to that, I would.
I would think of a kid who goes around mooning people w/ Moon as a nn.
