I don't think Wren works as a nickname for Rowan at all personally. Imo you can't just pick a similar sounding name from diverse backgrounds to use as a nickname for the other except in special cases. It seems way too contrived to me. So I prefer Wren on its own or Rowan with the nickname Ro. I think Ro is really cute for a girl.
