What's your favorite full name for Evie?
I ADORE the nickname Evie for a girl, but I can never quite commit to a full name. Evangeline is very pretty, but it reminds me of "evangelist." My parents are very religious, but I am not, so I don't want that connotation for her name. Genevieve is nice, but I actually think its a little cliche as a pretty name. I've seen quite a few. But maybe someone can talk me into it? One of my favorites is Evelyn and I love that it looks very classic and sophisticated and with Evie it gives that cute old-fashioned vibe, but I don't know, I always forget about Evelyn. It just sounds a bit bland to me or too unisex-sounding. Eve is beautiful, but I've never been able to get behind one-syllable full names.Any names you like that would make good full names for Evie? This name lends itself well to French hyphenized names too, and I love those. Or talk me into one of the ones above.

Evodie - it's a female version of Evode, which is a saint's name, but it's so unusual that if you don't want that connotation nobody will ever know.:)
Evarista (see Evariste for meaning)
My favourite names with the actual 'eve' sound are probably Yvette and Yvonne. Yvie?

This is really hard - I love them all! I think I'm a bit biased though, as my sister's name is Genevieve nn Evie. I don't think it's 'cliched' at all - I've only ever met one other Genevieve (who also went by Evie).
I love Evangeline too, but not the religious connotation.
Probably, if I didn't have Genevieve as a sister, I'd go for Evelyn. I like the more unisex sound to it and it looks so nice written down. If you wanted a more femenine version, you could go for Evelina or Aveline.

Eve and Evanthe are my favorite full names for Evie.I like Evadne, Evelina, Eveline, and Sunniva as well.

Evangeline.

Aviva?I feel that same was as you about Evangeline and Genevieve! Besides my all-time favorite (Eve) I also like Evie as a NN for Eva, Evening, Aviva, Evanthe, Evadne, Evonne, Evette, Evetta, Evita, Geneva and probably more that I'm forgetting. I think it could work as a NN for Maeve also, even if it is a stretch ("eve" is there in the name right?) - but then I suppose that would go against the whole "one syllable full name" thing

I really like the name Aviva. My sister actually has a close friend she grew up with by this name, so it's very familiar to me. But I'll have to think about Evie as a nickname for that one because it doesn't feel very intuitive. And if I used it, my sister might just associate it with her friend and think, way to be original! I wonder if other people feel uncommon names are ruined because you don't want people to think you "stole" it from someone you know...Cool suggestions. I'm feeling Evette too. I have a thing for French-influenced names. I really have to learn better French...hmm what about Evelette? Like a cross between Evelyn and Evette?

Yvette is nice and I love Aviva (though Evie wouldn't have crossed my mind as a nn), but not feelin' Evelette.
If you called the chilled Aviva and your sister asked, you could simply say you happened to like the name... and that because of her friend, it didn't feel too "out there" to be usable. I happen to really like the name.

What about Evelette?EV-uh-let. Like a cross between Evelyn and Evette. How do you guys feel about it? Would you have a hard time with this one if you saw it?

EvoletEvolet (pronounced like you want) was a character in "10000 B.C." and I think it's fairly familiar. Evelette looks like it would be said "EEV-let" to me, which is putting a really funny picture in my head - lots of little tiny Eves in a barnyard..... with the chicklets and piglets :D

I like names with some sort of etymological root though, so I wouldn't use a completely made up movie name that wasn't based off of pre-existing names. I don't like that "o" in the center. Yeah the problem seems to be pronunciation with Evelette, but I don't see a better, authentic-looking way to spell it. Oh well I guess...

How about Evalet? I still am not fond of it, but Evelyn can also be spelled Evalyn if one really wants to.

Aviva is awesome!

I really dislike the Evie is used as a nickname for Evelyn, since the pronunciations don't really make much sense. Genevieve nn Evie is nice. But I get what you're saying about cliche.Eva nickname Evie would be my vote.

As I said to Chloe below, my friends have a baby called Evelyn, pronounced Eve-lyn so that's an option. I would use Eva. I like Eva and also Evie.

My favourite is EvangelineI also like Evelyn

If Ginevra would work, why not Minerva? (I know this is practically blasphemous for some......)

hmmm ETA!Evelyn "Evie" just rubs me the wrong way. The Eeeeev sound isn't even in there! Maybe if is was Evilyn or Eva-Lynn I could get behind Evie for that. what about Eva then?Oh wait! Evening! yeeeah

lol @Evilyn, more people should be called this

It is a bit odd, but Evie does have a history of use as a nickname for Evelyn. Nicknames aren't always immediately apparent, and I don't think this one's that much of a stretch. The movie series, "The Mummie" has a character named Evelyn nn Evie. I see it as a cute, old fashioned combination.

My friends have a baby called Evelyn and they pronounce it Eve-lyn so the Eeeeeev sound is definitely there! On the other hand, one of my relatives was called Evelyn, but always shortened in the family to Ev, so I presume her name was pronounced as Ev-lyn. (I never met her myself, but heard about her a lot).

See those make sense. "Ev" is sooo cuuuute

I love Eve, Evelina, Genevieve, and Yvette.

Oh, yes, Ginevra! I forgot about that one. I love Ginevra, nn Evie, too.

I just prefer the simple Eve or Eva.

How about...Eva
Evangela
Evadne
Evaline / Eveline (if Evelyn looks too unisex?)
Evelia
Evette
EvitaOr you could have E.V initials with Evie as a nickname, for example...Elisabeth Valerie "Evie"
Eleanor Vivien "Evie"
Edith Virginia "Evie"etc etc

I like Evelia and Evadne and I was thinking the E.V. thing, but that might get confusing to people, especially since a lot of those first names you mentioned have similar sounding nicknames. It's certainly something to think about though, thanks.

I really dislike Evie and all her cousins.
Everild is the only one I would consider using, but I'd never use Evie as a nn, only Ever.
vote up1
Oh yeah, Evadne and Evanthe. But again, never Evie.

I was just thinking of Yvaine with the nickname of Yvie or Evie a few days ago. That might work for you.
