Aviva?
in reply to a message by Amy
I feel that same was as you about Evangeline and Genevieve! Besides my all-time favorite (Eve) I also like Evie as a NN for Eva, Evening, Aviva, Evanthe, Evadne, Evonne, Evette, Evetta, Evita, Geneva and probably more that I'm forgetting. I think it could work as a NN for Maeve also, even if it is a stretch ("eve" is there in the name right?) - but then I suppose that would go against the whole "one syllable full name" thing

I really like the name Aviva. My sister actually has a close friend she grew up with by this name, so it's very familiar to me. But I'll have to think about Evie as a nickname for that one because it doesn't feel very intuitive. And if I used it, my sister might just associate it with her friend and think, way to be original! I wonder if other people feel uncommon names are ruined because you don't want people to think you "stole" it from someone you know...Cool suggestions. I'm feeling Evette too. I have a thing for French-influenced names. I really have to learn better French...hmm what about Evelette? Like a cross between Evelyn and Evette?

Yvette is nice and I love Aviva (though Evie wouldn't have crossed my mind as a nn), but not feelin' Evelette.
If you called the chilled Aviva and your sister asked, you could simply say you happened to like the name... and that because of her friend, it didn't feel too "out there" to be usable. I happen to really like the name.

What about Evelette?EV-uh-let. Like a cross between Evelyn and Evette. How do you guys feel about it? Would you have a hard time with this one if you saw it?

EvoletEvolet (pronounced like you want) was a character in "10000 B.C." and I think it's fairly familiar. Evelette looks like it would be said "EEV-let" to me, which is putting a really funny picture in my head - lots of little tiny Eves in a barnyard..... with the chicklets and piglets :D

I like names with some sort of etymological root though, so I wouldn't use a completely made up movie name that wasn't based off of pre-existing names. I don't like that "o" in the center. Yeah the problem seems to be pronunciation with Evelette, but I don't see a better, authentic-looking way to spell it. Oh well I guess...

How about Evalet? I still am not fond of it, but Evelyn can also be spelled Evalyn if one really wants to.
