I have always thought Sophie is cute, but it is extremely popular here (with both people and pets), moreso than even Sophia (bilingual English/French speaking area). So yeah, it's pretty boring and safe to me...common to the point of mundane, unfortunately. Have you considered Sylvie, a more unexpected choice with a similar feel? I adore Sylvie!

But, if I *had* to use Sophie, I would spice it up like this-

Sophie Clementine
Sophie Mireille
Sophie Melisande
Sophie Millicent
Sophie Clothilde
Sophie Lavinia
Sophie Lucinda
Sophie Lucienne
Sophie Marcela
...
