I knew a Charles nn Charlie in middle school and I remember thinking that his name was smarmy and awful...but then again, I also thought the boy himself was a twerp...

Now, I really like the name Charlie. Think its adorable. Don't know when or why that happened. And I do like Charlie on its own, rather than as a nn for Charles; using a two-syllable nn for one-syllable first names always seemed counter-intuitive to me...
