I personally prefer it as a nickname for John (which appeals to me more as a firstname), but there is nothing boldly flashing that would strike someone ill if they went by Jack as a shortened form of James (also a very strong, handsome choice.)

In the end, I truly have nothing negative to say about Jack; it is magnificent.
