One of my friends actually knows a guy named Llyr and he's from PEI.
I like both spellings, but I think I'd go for Lir, just for simplicity. I don't mind it being short. It's not shorter than Leo *shrug*.
I also know a guy here in Gipuzkoa named Lier... it isn't quite the same as Lir, but when I heard his name, I was like, "Awesome!"
