My dh is James Odell, Jr. I find James to be very dull, however, at least it isn't something hideous and at least it's a classic. He has never gone by a nn such as Jimmy or Jimbo (thank God). As a boy, he loved having his father's name. Loved it. As an adult, it has been a little frustrating getting the wrong mail or phone calls. When his father retired, we began receiving AARP correspondence. I even received mail addressed to the wife of a retiree! At one point, we also shared the same bank and had some problems there. I'd never use either name even if it wasn't my dh's name. I'd also never have a III since I find that sort of practice rather vain and wasteful when there are so many nice names out there to choose from. I especially dislike Odell which seems woefully nerdy and unattractive. It's the name his father went by and honestly, I'm not sure how I would have felt had this been James' fn! Did I mention how much I despise Odell? ;-)
