Also when you have a super common name it's very likely that the person who reads your resumé has met or known someone with the name he didn't like. I bet many guys had a horrible ex-girlfriend named Hannah or Emily whereas hardly anyone will have met a Phoenix. So it could even be something positive, you never know.
I actually read about that study and thought it was really sad. But yeah, I think it happened because they thought they were black and not because they thought they were uneducated or trashy. Or maybe that was part of the stereotype. Anyway, I thought that was really horrible.
