I think the majority of them are used by upper-middle class liberal arts professors who lived in a hippy commune back int he day but now drive a Prius and live in a brownstone. So I think that they have a lot of pretention and hipsterism that comes with them. Though in a few years they`ll probably trickle down to the lower classes and the elite will find a new trend.
