I guess I plan on mostly using family names for mn. I have a lot of great female family names but I'm not fond of most of my male family names. Most of their names are
John and very traditional names like
Stephen,
James,
Robert,
David,
Christopher,
Garrett,
Edwin,
Cecil, etc... I like
Edwin but my partner isn't close very close to him. So lately I've been thinking instead of using family names for my future sons mn that I should use mythology, literature, constellation / star names or other names that have signifigance to me.
Sorry that is slightly off topic... Everyone on my side of the family uses honoring names but I don't feel that means that I have to. They are your children and you should name them what you want to. In middle school I was slightly upset when my aunt and uncle used the name
Nicolas for their son since my sister is named
Nicole. But other than a slight amount of confusion every so often it really isn't so bad. These days it makes me happy that they choose the name that they wanted to use rather than worrying about how we would feel. I think you should never not name your children what you want to.
