I intend to give my children more unique names to begin with so I don't really think a more common last name would persuade me to use a more unusual first name. The only effect I can see the last name having is if it's super ethnic sounding I'd probably go with a first name that compliments that because it always erks me when I meet people with names like Gianni McCorrmack or Shannon Beauvais. Just a personal pet peeve.
