The only pressure I had that way was from my mother, who really did NOT want her fn handed down to an innocent baby. So I used it anyway, after her death. No harm done.
We used family names and/or friends' names if they sounded good. Otherwise, not. For isntance, we say that our son Peter got the name because he was born on Peter Sellars's birthday, and it's true that the dates match, but if he'd been born on some other celeb's birthday (Presley, Bogart ...) he'd actually still have been Peter.
