My mom's name is Natalie Ann, but she has always gone by the nn Nikki. We aren't really sure where it came from, but it's always been around. We are a religious family and she was born in the Christmas season, so Natalie is appropriate.

I'm named after my mother (my fn is Natalie) and I would still consider using it for a DD. Since Mom has always been Nikki, we were very infrequently mixed up when I was a child and then only by telemarketers. I have never minded having the same name as a my mother (my brother has the same name as my father), especially since middle names are different and help to differentiate us now that I'm an adult. The birth dates help, too. :P

I'm not sure I would rename my mother. She carries Natalie and Nikki very well, and my grandmother named her right at the beginning of Natalie's meteoric rise to popularity and fame (always a trendsetter, my grandma). Going on popularity in her birth year and naming trends in my own family, she could be renamed Susan Agnes, Rosa Theresa, or Ellen Cecelia.

Bonus names! My grandmothers are Mary Cecelia and Virginia Louise, great-grandmothers are Ruth Marie, Blanche, Maria Magdelena, and Ruth Marie.
