I wonder if people started thinking Charlie was more acceptable for girls because of the perfume Charlie? I don't know how long that's been around, but it's pretty old.

In a kids' book I read when I was 8, called "Herbie Jones" a boy is trying to impress his third-grade teacher by splashing on cologne. He has too much on in the first place, and his friend Herbie says "You smell like a woman!" Raymond says "Well I wanted to smell good and there were all these bottles in the bathroom so I just used the one with the guy's name on it...Charlie."
