I wanted to avoid a popular name for my daughter. I picked Victoria. For the last year for which data was available to me at the time of my pregnancy, it was number 104. For the year I was pregnant, it had gone to 87, but that data wasn't available to me at that time. For the year of her birth, it went to 65. And kept going up. It's number 23 this year. And I had specifically not wanted a name that was in the top twenty-five.

It's annoying, and I've said so before, but it's not annoying enough that I wish I hadn't named her what I did. It was the perfect name and I can't imagine her with any other. Maybe if it had been popular then and I had avoided it for that reason and chosen another name, it would be different, but once the name's given it just seems right.

And my son? His name is William! Didn't it end up being number 3 this year? It's always been in the top ten, I think. But his case was different, he was named after his father, his father had always wanted a namesake, and much as under other circumstances I would have avoided such a popular name, the way his dad felt was much more important. I don't regret his name, either.

So it will be okay...if you wanted a Biblical name that reflects your heritage and you love Noah, believe me, that will be more important to you than popularity.
