I'd pronounce Lyrene like Lur-REEN or lye-REEN. Drop the final E, and it'd be more like LEER-rin (Lyren, or even Lyrin because it looks like lyric and might discourage the Lye pronunciation). Lyri sounds just like the word leery though, and doesn't really shorten the name. I could see Lyrin (LEER-rin) nn Lee working. I guess if it's HG style, you might like the nn Lyri if you are trying to subliminally refer to the character's distrustfulness of others. Then Lyri would be ok.

I would be tempted to pronounce Lyrene like LYE-reen. In fact, I definitely would.

I like Rhett but not with Emerson. I mean, it sounds fine... but Emerson just seems so bland next to Rhett.
