I'm more interested in female names. If I were to make a list of my favorite names more of them would be female than male, and I'm more likely to respond to posts about female names than male names.
Oddly enough, or perhaps not so oddly, this can make it harder to name a girl than a boy. If I had ever had a third child, I can reel off about four boys' names I would use, but only one girl's name I would use, and that one was a lot harder to come up with. I think that being more interested in the names of one gender makes one pickier about names of that gender. It's harder to come up with the "perfect" name. My sister Patty had this problem---she easily came up with her boys' names, but each time her sons were born, she still hadn't chosen a girl's name when she went to the hospital. The boys' names were "good enough" but the girl's name had to be "perfect". And none were. I don't know and she still doesn't know what she would have named a daughter if she'd had one. Probably would have ended up coming here with major name regret.
