The people we've chosen to honor are those we are close to or who meant a lot to us. The farthest I'd go would be to use Jacob Donald (my husband's two grandfathers) but that's also a nod to my mother-in-law. She wanted to use that name and was talked out of it. Oh, I also chose saints to honor, just as a tradition and because I really like them. Thomas Merton, St. Theresa of Avila, Julian of Norwich - but those tend to be pushed down so that I can honor family members.
