I really like the combo! Sofia is one of my favorite names ATM, and I think it's great you're using a family name.

I've never liked Amelia, but it is starting to grow on me. I prefer Emilia. I've heard some people pronounce them the same, but I pronounce them differently and I love the way Emilia sounds. It also lends itself to quite a few nicknames, like you said, just in case - though I find it lovely on its own.

I've only ever met one Emilia (I live in the southeastern U.S.). It was a few days ago at work and she was probably mid to late 20s. The combo was Emilia Colette. I would really love to meet more Emilias. It's a beautiful name. I can definitely see it on little girls, but it would age beautifully and would be a nice change from Emily.
