I'm 61 and went to school with a Jessica.
When I was pregnant in 1979, I considered using Jessica. At the time, I had no idea it was popular. I wasn't aware of popularity statistics or especially interested in them, back then.
It's funny how certain names get to be "in the air." I've known several parents my age who named their daughters Jennifer, without any awareness of how ultra-popular it was.
I did not hear of Ashley (for a girl) till the mid-'80s or late '80s.
