I usually try to avoid it, but it can work. I don't mind it when the first and middle name start with the same letter but different sounds (ex. Charlotte Christine, Stephanie Sharon).
There are other instances in which it can sound okay. It depends on where the stresses are on the syllables. If the syllables are evenly distributed and there aren't too many other repetitive sounds, an alliterative combo can sound fine. Mary Margaret is an example of an alliterative combo that works fairly well.
