Have you ever met an Angela or Angie with red hair?
I put this on the Writing Room board but thought perhaps some of you over here might have a few more suggestions.
In the story I'm writing I've been having trouble deciding on a name for character - she has long red hair (more auburn), is the mother of five children, has a fairly quiet and relaxed personality but also stands up for what she believes in.
The only name I can think of for her is Angela "Angie" but most of the "Angies" I've met have had dark hair so naming her Angela just doesn't seem right. I've also thought of Laura or Melody but again those don't seem quite right. Her husband's name is Ben and their children are Garrett, Lydia, Jonathan, Charity and Ellie. Surname not decided on yet.Have you met anyone with red hair named Angela or Angie before?
Can you suggest any names that suit the character's description? Thanks!

I couldn't write an Angela that wasn't blonde. I don't think I've ever met one, or an Angie, but I just can't picture one that's not blonde. Same with Katie or Lily, though I've known plenty of dark-haired Lilys and Katies. And I couldn't write a light-haired Margaret or Jane or Isla, because they have brown hair so solidly in my mind that to me it just wouldn't be believable. Nor could I write a Fiona that wasn't red-haired. But of course, I read about characters with "conflicting" hair colors all the time, and it doesn't bother me because I know people have different ideas about what "fits" this or that name. So I think the most important thing is just to write a character that fits your mental image, whether it's realistic or not.

I don't think I have met an Angela or Angie with red hair, but I don't see why it couldn't work. I have met blonde and dark haired Angelas; I don't think of a specific hair color when I hear the name.Based on the description of the character, I think Angela would be perfectly fine. Laura would also work well for her.Other ideas:
Andrea - I used to know an Andrea with red hair.
Lily
Sarah
Rebecca
Erin
Laurel
Laurie / Lori
Carrie
Kerry
Callie
Kelly
Annie
Anna
Hannah
Caroline
Victoria

Andrea is very pretty and similar to Angela but has a different feel to it. I'll have to add that to my list!I also like Sarah, Erin, Anna and Hannah quite a lot. I knew a Hannah with bright red hair, Hannah Avery I think, and it suited her very well and she was very pretty. :)Thanks for your suggestions!

YepI've met a red-haired Angie, don't know if her first name is Angela, Angelina, or Angeline. I think it's Angela. She's a little younger than me, so probably 18 now, maybe 19, athletic, a little on the heavier side (but it's mostly muscle), rather popular, outgoing. Party girl. Low voice.Angela for me is a woman who has a lot of boisterous personality, sometimes to the point of being obnoxious, but those are the Angelas I've met. Since your Angela is quieter, that name doesn't seem to fit very well for me, but that's just me. I can't speak to Laura, since that's my name, and I'm really not quiet or reserved at all. I do have red hair, but it's dyed. :P Melody for me has dark hair, for sure, and darker skin. The first Melody I met was Hispanic, big dark eyes, long dark brown hair, million-dollar smile. So that's the image I have.Names I would choose for a wife and mother, quiet but principled, include:Amy
Jenny / Jennie
Penny
Julie
Sarah
Erin
Katherine
Karen
Michelle
Rebecca "Becky"
Beth
SharonAny that work?

Thank you for your comment, I found it very helpful!
I've only known two Angies and both had darker hair and were hardworking mothers and slightly talkative but not boisterous like the Angie you mentioned. Angela brings to mind the a character from the TV show Bones who is dark colored and a bit of a party girl. I'm starting to get the idea that Angie and Angela doesn't quite bring with it the image I'm looking for. That's neat that you're a Laura! I'm a dark haired Laurie so I'm not quite feeling Laura as the name for my character and it would be odd to use a name so similar to mine when writing this character. :)
Melody's to me used to be light colored but recently have been dark colored, so I guess that's out too. Thanks for your lovely suggestions! I'm really liking Amy, Katherine, Sarah, Beth, Karen and Erin! I'll add those to my list and mull it over for a while. Thanks! :)

I feel like I have met a red headed Angie before, but I honestly can't remember if I am recalling it correctly or not. Anyway, I think Angie, Laura, or Melody would all fit the character description. Although, I do picture a Melody as having a darker shade of hair, but it could be dark red. Wasn't Melody the name of the Little Mermaid and she had red hair??

Little MermaidAriel was the name of The Little Mermaid in the Disney film and Melody was her daughter's name in the second film, and she had darker hair.
Thanks for your comment! :)

Thank you for your suggestions!I've been thinking about Kathy but mostly as a nickname for Kathleen. I think that might work well.I like Sarah, Amy and Nancy is nice too. I knew a red haired girl named Nancy once. April is a lovely suggestion too, in fact my dad has a cousin with dark red hair named April and her sister Bethany has brighter curly red hair. Joanna is pretty, I might have to add that to my list! :)

Thanks for the suggestions! I really like several of them especially Kathleen and Gwendolen (but probably couldn't call her Gwen because her husband is Ben, ha).
Funny, I think you're the third person to suggest Bonnie. I don't usually think of that for redheads because two Bonnies I've known had brown hair and then my aunt has honey colored hair.

Is IS ironic that I think of Bonnie as a redhead since my own sister, Bonnie, doesn't have red hair. Then again, she has colored her hair so many different colors that I couldn't tell you what color it is anymore! It used to be light brown bc (before coloring). ;-)

I wonder if the reason for so many Bonnie suggestions could be Bonnie Wright the actress from the Harry Potter films who has red hair?
Not sure if I'll seriously consider Bonnie, especially since the character's husband's name is Ben. hehe :)Thanks!

NoThe only Angela I've ever known had dark hair. The redheads I've known have been named Gary, Bonnie, Laura, Sonya, and I've probably known a couple of redheads that I'm not remembering right now.

Most of the Lauras I've known have had blond-ish hair but I'm liking Laura quite a bit. Bonnie is interesting too. Thanks for the help!

a person's name has nothing to do with their hair color...Lots of babies don't even have hair when they are named, and others have their hair change color as they grow up.Yes, I know an Angie with reddish hair.

Yes, that's true...Parents don't usually know what hair color their child might have and sometimes their hair color changes too.
I'll have to figure out what her parent's naming style was. Thanks!

Just this Angela...http://www.fanpop.com/spots/my-so-called-life/images/143900/title/angela-photoBecause of her, I think of Angela/Angie as a redhead name. :)

That's neat, but isn't that Claire Danes? Don't think I've seen her with red hair before. :)

It IS Claire Danes......but the character she played with red hair was named Angela. It was from a TV show called "My So-Called Life."

No, I haven't. Most of the Angelas I've known also had dark hair. Paige
Phoebe
Bonnie

That's interesting too because the name Angela of course means "angel" and usually angels are pictured as having blond or golden hair and being light. Paige is cute. Phoebe is really nice, and I like Bonnie too. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to try those one for size with my character.
