Names I'm surprised aren't more popular:
Susannah. Don't get me wrong, I'm DELIGHTED that it's not more popular, as I want to use it on my own daughter, but it confuses me. Seems like everything ending in "anna" is really in right now, plus the old-is-new-again trend... idk.
Briony /
Bryony. Right there with you.
Gwyneth. This only just hit the top 1000, but
Gwyneth Paltrow's been all over the place for years. It's a gorgeous name, and celebrities generally cause popularity spikes. What gives?
Nicola.
Nicole was really popular for a long time, but all the -a versions of names are in right now. Where's
Nicola?
Alisa. There are a million different sources for this name that parents could have found, and it also fits the
Alyssa /
Alissa mold.
Giulietta. Italian names are getting all popular, especially with the
Gi- prefix (
Gia,
Gianna,
Giovanna,
Giuliana). Where's
Giulietta, especially with
Juliet getting trendy?
Names whose popularity I don't understand:
Aubrey. I don't know where it came from, or why.
Audrey, at least, has Miss Hepburn to back it up.
Evelyn. What?! I mean, I love the name, but what?!
Kennedy, and all its variant spellings (saw a Kenadeigh recently). You'd think of all the times for
Kennedy to be popular, it would've been about 40 years ago.
Camden. Of ALL the places to name your kid after, you pick the murder capital of the U.S.?
BTW,
Kyla does not exactly fit in with the
Kaylee /
Kylie /
Kayla trend.
Kyla started losing steam about a decade ago, while
Kaylee only started to drop in 2010,
Kayla in 2009, and
Kylie's gotten more popular since its last change. Also am surprised about the relative lack of popularity of
Keira /
Kira /
Kyra.
