Thank you! In the first clip, it sounds more like "lattice" but in the second clip, yes, Kathleen Turner sure sounds like she's saying "lettuce".

And Lettice Knollys is exactly what motivated me to make this post. I was reading about her, and got to thinking about her name and how I like its Elizabethan flavor, but....I thought it was pronounced le-TEES. I wouldn't have even asked about it if I had known its correct pronunciation.

My next post will be, "Do you think it would be easy to get people to pronounce Lettice as le-TEES?"
