I've always thought Hallie was cute, but it's quite nicknamey. I don't mind it on its own, but if I used it I'd want it as a nn for Harriet. I've known a few Hallies, pretty sure that was their full name. I much prefer Hallie to Hayley, and Hallie is the only spelling that looks right to me. I don't think it's very tied to Halle Berry because of how she spells it. I don't think of her when I hear it, anyway.
Ohhhh I know there are people who would pronounce Hallie like Hayley, and then I would look at them like they're crazy. Because phonetically that makes no sense. But I once encountered someone who named their daughter Halley or Hallee or something and pronounced it like Hayley.
