Hmmm. No, I don't think it's that much of a stretch, as you have described. Both forms are two vowels surrounding a D--one with the diminutive "ee" vowel siffix. And there is simply an added aspirated H before the first.

It's certainly not as large of a leap as say... Margaret nn Peggy. That is a more complex route.

Besides, conversation starters like these aren't necessarily undesirable. People here, at least, seem to be repelled by simplicity and the expected.
