Hm. If the *only* reason you dislike Desmond is because of Desi, maybe you could change the nickname? Des? D? Mondy (kind of like Monty)?

When we were in this position, we both compromised and used the only name we could lukewarmly agree on. So for you that would mean Llyr. Good luck.
