It doesn't change it for me. I dislike most surnames on girls and the fact that the name was the mother's maiden name doesn't change that. I do believe in tradition, but not to that point. I can see giving a boy the mother's maiden name as a first name, but not a girl.

Even as a middle name, I find it strange. I remember when I first heard that my stepsister's middle name is Baker. And then found out that Baker is also the middle name of my stepmother. I was told it was a family name. I just found Baker unbearably odd and unbearably ugly on a girl, even as a middle name, family name or no.
