1) How many girls with this name have you known and how old were they?

I know 4 Katherines over 50, one that is 21, and one that is 7. I also know 2 Catherines in their early 20s

How many of them went by a nickname...:
One of the Katherines over 50 is always called Kitty.
Two of the Katherines over 50 are always called Kathy.
The other one over 50 is never called Katherine but is called Kathy and Kate.
The 21 year old Katherine is almost always called by a nickname, for a while it was Kat or Katie but as she got older she preferred Kat.
The 7 year old Katherine is always called Katie or occasionally Kate.
One Catherine does always get called Catherine.
The other Catherine is always called Cathy.

2) Which of these nicknames do you like?

Kat
Kate
Katie
Kathy
Kitty
other: Cate, Catie, Cathy, Cat

I like all of them but I think Kitty and Kathy are dated.

3) Do you consider Katherine etc to be a popular name? Or do you think it has so many nicknames that Katherine itself and most of the nicknames don't really seem that common?

I do think it is really common.

4)Is there any Katherine nickname you can't stand and why?
No, not really.

5)Do you get different colors or images for the different spellings? Do you imagine a different personality when you see the spellings? Nope

Catherine
Kathryn
Katherine
Katharine
Catharine

6) If you wanted to use the nn Kate would you be more likely to use a K version than a C version? How about Kat? In other words, would your nickname choice influence the way you'd spell the name?
I would if my grandmother's middle name hadn't been spelled Catherine. That makes me personally want to spell it Catherine even if I was going to call her Kate.

7) Do you consider it dated (in a classic dated way, like Amanda or Jessica)? It went up a little (Royal Wedding, I guess) but I still think it's on its way out of the top 100 overall.
I think it is a total classic like Elizabeth.

8) Does Kate work on its own?
Definitely fine for a middle name to be just Kate. For a first name it is okay but everyone will probably assume they are named Katherine.
