I know two brothers who have the same middle name, and it's their mom's maiden name.
I think it can work, especially if it's a "namey" name (Shannon is a common first name, and I could picture Kinney as a first name easily). If it's not very 'namey' though, I might say you should use it as a second middle name. The brothers I mentioned each only have one "usable" name, because their middle name is not something you could call yourself. So if they didn't like their first names, they'd have no "namey" middle name to go by.
On a randomer note Northway is a really cool ln/mn.
